The BoardRoom magazine is now in its 20th year of publication for the private club industry and we want to sincerely thank our readers, our advertisers and contributors for their continued support and belief in our vision of educating board members, general managers and private club staffs.
It’s recognition time again and a tip of the hat this year to Jerry Glassman as BoardRoom magazine launches its 19th year of publication!
With hundreds of applications from seven different countries, we have selected our top private club board leaders of the year. BoardRoom magazine this year is recognizing 22 Private Club Presidents of the Year – 2014 from four countries, for practicing what they preach – leadership for the betterment of their clubs – board presidents or chairs that have served as the volunteer leaders of their club.
It’s the seventh year the industry’s top private club presidents have been honored by BoardRoom magazine for their outstanding work, and marks the first time two presidents, with overlapping terms have been recognized at the same club. There are two double entry recipients this year.
It’s been a year of achievement for Chair and CEO Jerry Glassman of Boca West Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida and BoardRoom’s 2014 Distinguished President of the Year.
“This has been a busy and very successful period for Boca West Country Club, and much credit goes to Jerry Glassman for his vision, insight and leadership as the club has worked continually to engage the club’s board of directors and members in fostering a spirit of cooperation all while enhancing the club’s member experience,” explained John Fornaro, BoardRoom magazine’s publisher and CEO.
Volunteer boards of directors and club presidents must set the tone and tenor for what happens at their clubs and it’s this vision and mission that BoardRoom recognizes with the top club president awards.
Our congratulations go out to the clubs, Jerry Glassman and the 21 other Club Presidents of the Year for their exceptional contributions to their home clubs. You can read more about it in our BoardRoom cover story this issue.
This CMAA-conference issue is no less, jam-packed with philosophies, opinions, ideas and innovations all aimed at giving club boards and general managers more ammunition in their recruiting and retaining forays, so members more fully understand the value of their private club membership in the “new” neighborhood of today.
Bill Booth in his ‘Technical Perspective’ focuses on his second annual Vendor News roundup just in time for CMAA’s annual World Conference in San Antonio, TX in early March. You’ll find brief reviews of 22 club technology vendors participating in the 2015 CMAA Business Expo. Each review includes a snapshot of what the company offers, along with a preview of new technologies to be introduced at the Expo. Hopefully these reviews will be helpful in planning your visit to this year’s Expo!
And it’s time to blow our own horn! BoardRoom magazine is a winner! Twice over.
BoardRoom magazine recently was named the MarCom Awards Gold award winner for print media of an association. In this case the association is the Association of Private Clubs and Directors, BoardRoom’s parent organization.
The MarCom Awards is a creative competition for any individual or company involved in the concept, writing and design of print, visual, audio and web materials and programs. The MarCom competition has grown to perhaps the largest of its kind in the world with about 6,000 entries per year from 34 countries.
And in another competition, BoardRoom has been named: Best Publication – best publication design by the 52nd annual American Graphic Design Awards, sponsored by Graphic Design USA www.gdusa.com
Our associate editor and creative director Heather Arias, who designs and produces each BoardRoom magazine, submitted the BoardRoom entries. BoardRoom’s May/June 2014 issue featuring the cover story: Philadelphia’s Union League Scores Where it Counts was BoardRoom’s winning entry in the Graphic Design competition.
